Can I save money with just one frame house built and get the job done within myself?

I'll have a custom home built in next. I wondered if I could save a lot of money just to make the frame builders and contractors who come in the electrical and plumbing and basically do all the interior (drywall, painting, tileing, soils, etc.) to myself. If so how would I be saving?

Jason, good question and deserves a good answer. Unlike the response will tell others not. No, it will save money doing this work yourself and that is why, subcontractors providing services such as drywall, tiles, individual cases, trim, doors and floors have accounts with suppliers that allow them to purchase materials and equipment at discount prices not available to you. In other words, they can do the job nearly the same cost you can buy the material. In addition to buying equipment you will to buy or rent the tools to install the material. Trust me, do not save money by doing this work yourself. Over the years I have received a dozen calls of people who are in over their heads and need help with your finished project. I have always turned down, because there is money involved and I would not go in to someones mddle mess. There would have been no way to guarantee a work when it became part of him and I made a part of it. The best advice I can give you is to not go there! But there is a positive side to do it yourself and that is when the act is not (saving money) that will have a garage full of tools to be useful for future projects. Me too would caution agaist acting as the builder and the hiring of contractors to himself in an effort to save money. Remember that these subcontractors were more loyal to the builders who have a working relationship with what will be an individualistic attempt to be a builder. You will get real frustrated with them when they are not presented because that their taking care of another manufacturer. I hope you take this advice. Good luck!
