Beacon technology has come a long way since first introduced, with LED lighting sources and the replacement of candles and light bulbs from the decades above. LED headlamps are used in a number of different industries, but there are three industries that have obtained the use of most of them (and as such have helped to evolve in lightweight and durable versions used today.) The main industries are coal mining, search and rescue, and industrial production, and each makes use of the headlights slightly differently.

Coal Mining

Having a reliable source of light is essential for coal, miners as they spend much of their time deep under the natural light can not reach. Early mining lamps made use of small oil lamps that served as helmet-mounted candles, but this presents a dangerous situation where pockets of natural gas, or were found large quantities of coal dust was present. Because mine safety is a concern, an alternative had been found to ensure that coal miners do their work without risk fire or explosion.

Flashlight batteries are used for years, but batteries made mining helmets even heavier than they already were. The development of LED headlamp was the response to the miners' prayers, enabling a robust and reliable source of light that did not require large battery packs to keep running. LED light illuminates a better quality than the first alternative, in addition, reduction of mining on the eyes.

Search and rescue

Unlike coal miners, most of the search and rescue workers spend most of their time working outdoors. This does not mean that their work is not dangerous, the lives of adults and children often hang in the balance and rescue teams should be able to respond to a variety of areas and situations with the weather quickly and efficiently. This efficiency can be greatly reduced by having to carry a flashlight or lantern batteries. The possibility of an LED headlamp that does not make this important job much easier. The LED light are often so closed that is impermeable, so the search and rescue workers not only have their hands free, but are able to do their work effectively regardless of the weather outside.

Industrial Manufacturing

Industrial production is an easy job, and in most cases regardless of a job doing industrial worker will need to have both hands free to do so. This is fine for the line workers who are doing their work in well lit areas, but can be a major inconvenience for the workers warehouse and performing maintenance, as they often must venture into the darkest corners and areas of the facility. LED headlamps give them plenty of light when needed, keeping your hands free, and LED lights in general are durable enough that they can take some blows and impacts, without having to worry about breaking a bulb.
