Specialized Roubaix is one suitable for a bike 1000 miles?

I am cycling through France and Spain this summer and a friend has offered to give specialized Roubaix Elite (which is very trusting) I know that is not designed for that purpose, but it can attach feasable-rack / panniers etc. My bike is very old, very cheap and anyone who has a Roubaix heavy.Could please let me know, thanks.

Well, the Roubaix have not awarded points in rack / Defenses. (they are called solder eyelets or additions). There are ways to connect racks / fenders anyway, using tweezers, and can work well, but I still do not recommend this bike for this purpose. It is good to download one days bicycle riding, but not really suitable for loaded touring, since it has a fiber holder carbon and low spoke-count wheels. It would start breaking spokes and unrideable very soon after it has loaded everything. If money's tight, you can get an old bike mountain bike and turn it into a decent tour. Get the kind with a fork (no disturbance). Changing tires slick, high pressure, make an adjustment. You can get more quality models for a few hundred. Or, see about renting a nice bike there – look at the rear of the bike magazine, there are many tour companies that may be able to help. Have fun, Scott
